Online BMI Calculator For Females And Males

This is a convenient free online BMI calculator for females and males. BMI stands for Body Mass Index, which is a way of determining if your body composition (percentage of fat, muscle and bone) is healthy for your height. BMI is used by government health agencies for large national-wide medical studies and they use the data findings for their statistical reports.

STEP 1: Enter Your Information & Click "Submit" To Get Your BMI Score

Your BMI score:

STEP 2: Take Your BMI Score And Determine What Category You Fit In

Take your BMI score that the calculator calculated for you and determine what category you are in (underweight, normal, overweight or obese) by using the BMI ranges below.

Underweight BMI < 18.5
Normal Range BMI 18.5-25
Overweight BMI 25-30
Obese BMI > 30

You could also use the bmi chart for this as well.

STEP 3: Analyze The Data

You should be warned that the bmi calculation has severe limitations. For the most part, the bmi calculation will be a good indicator of your fat composition if you DO NOT weight train. The reason being is that those that weight train tend to have above average weight and lower body fat percentage. According to the BMI calculation, the weight trainer would be considered overweight or obese, which is completely inaccurate.

So if you do weight train, don't use this bmi calculator because it will not be accurate for you. Instead, use one of the following alternative methods for measuring your body fat:
  • Skinfold Testing, which uses fat calipers to measure your body fat (moderately fast results, inexpensive, great accuracy);
  • Near Infrared Interactance, which measures body fat using infrared light that measures the difference between the amount of light absorbed versus the amount of light reflected (fast, inexpensive, moderate accuracy);
  • Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA), which sends electrical current through the body to measure body composition (fast, moderately expensive, poor accuracy);
  • Hydrostatic Weighing, which is an underwater method that measures bone density and then uses a mathematical formula to calculate your body fat (slow, relatively expensive, very accurate); or
  • Dexa (Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry) Scan, which uses low radiation x-ray to determine your body fat (slow, expensive, extremely accurate).

STEP 4: Take Appropriate Action

If you're underweight, you may want to consider weight training in order to build some muscle mass and increase your weight. A good place to start is our Building Muscle 101 section. It will get you up and running in no time.

If you're within the normal ranges that's a good sign; however, if you aren't exercising, it's recommended that you start. It will keep you healthy in the long-run and reduce your stress levels.

If you fall in the overweight or obese categories you are at a higher risk for certain illnesses and diseases. I highly recommend you visit our Losing Weight 101 section and start implementing the suggestions asap.
